The Big Skill East of England 2009 - Awards

The Big Skill is an awards programme to recognise people from across the East of England who have improved their life or lives of others through learning.

It is a Learning and Skills Council (LSC) initiative in partnership with BBC East. The Big Skill first ran in 2008 and following its success in Norfolk is being rolled out across the region with support from Ray Stubbs sports presenter and Barbara Follett, Minister for the East of England, who are both championing the initiative.

A celebration of award winners will take place across the region in June - compered by BBC radio presenters and supported by Ray Stubbs. Local schools, colleges and training providers from the six counties will also showcase various opportunities available and people will be encouraged to try their hand at learning a new skill.

The Big Skill will be shown across all media within the region – TV, radio and press. The launch in January had fantastic media support and this has been on-going since January and will continue into June and beyond the June celebration events.
